Preschool Science Workshops

Mad Science Preschool Programs are engaging hands-on learning experiences for preschool children aged 3-5. Each workshop is an interactive, age-appropriate exploration of a specific science topic. From air, our animal friends and butterflies to water, weather and worms, each themed program is designed to captivate the curious nature of young children. Preschoolers enjoy engaging demonstrations, perform simple experiments and will discover how science can help us better understand the world around us!

Our workshops last about 40 minutes, but the interest they spark can last a lifetime. Children also receive a complementary take home project related to the theme of the workshop. Preschool workshops are $99 for a class of up to 15 children. Two or more of the same workshop in a row drops the price to $90 for each workshop. There may also be a distance charge depending upon your location.

World of Worms – Inspect the wiggly world of a worm. Use a magnifying glass and powers of observation to get the dirt on our important friends. Unearth the habits and the body parts of one of nature’s slimiest creatures.

Listen up! - Seeing is believing when we examine the wonders of our five senses. Join us as we look for taste buds and discover sound waves. We may even stop to smell the roses!

Eye to Eye – Telescopes, binoculars, and magnifying glasses are just a few of the scientific tools that we will bring into play. See your eyes in a different light. Use a miniature telescope and see what you never saw before!

Keep in Touch – Do you know how sensitive the tips of your fingers are? Using only your sense of touch, you will try to identify objects you see everyday. Determine what makes some objects safe to touch and others not. No Band-Aids needed!

Listen Closely – Investigate the sounds that catch our attention. With a wave motion model and a twirling tube in hand, learn how sound travels in waves and can be heard in a variety of pitches. Experiment with ordinary materials to make movie sound effects.

Look Closely – Explore mirrors, reflections and optical illusions. Use hand-held microscopes to get a closer look at everyday objects. Continue the fun at home with your very own magnifying glass.

Taste and Smell – Join us for a journey through our mouth and nose. Discover your senses of smell and taste. Learn how your senses help you enjoy all of your favorite foods as well as those that are not as yummy. Create your very own scented pictures.

Human Body – No bones about it, the human body is amazing! Feel the movement of your muscles and find out how they work with your bones to help you run. Listen to the beat of your heart and uncover why it’s the most important muscle in your body.

Healthy Choices – An apple a day keeps the doctor away!  Discover why eating fruits and vegetables help you grow big and strong!  Learn the basics of healthy eating and make a meal using the “food pyramid”.

Energy and Motion – Examine how things move while we learn about the basic laws of motion. Discover that energy can be stored and released. Create a roller coaster and take home a marvelous energy machine – a nylon spring!

Science of Music – Boom, tap, smack, cha-cha-cha. Feel, hear, and see the vibrations of sound. Test different types of instruments. Examine the loud and quiet rhythms that make music rock!

The World of Color – Welcome to the exciting world of color! Use chemical reactions and, yes, even rainbows! Roll up your sleeves and get into color mixing with liquids, gels, and paints. Color your world beautiful with a sun catcher that captures the light.

Adventures in Air – Discover the power of air! How can something invisible have the power both to speed things up and slow things down? Soar the skies with your very own cloud climber.

Seas, Sand and Surf – Beach blanket fun at club Pre-School! Make your own sand and see how shells are used by animals for protection.  Take an imaginary ride on a Mad Science submarine and see what animals call the ocean home. Create your own ocean in a bottle.

Space Frontiers – 3...2...1...Blast off! Be a Mad Science Astronaut! Take a walk on the Moon and collect lunar rocks. Travel around our solar system and make your own constellation. Watch out - here comes a comet! Mix dramatic play with science exploration in Mission: Mad Science.

Water Works – Make a splash and see why some big things can float and why some little things sink. Water is more complicated than it looks. Experiment with density, absorption and surface tension.

Weather Wonders – What can make a sunny day fun? Making raindrops! See how heat, water, and wind make weather happen. Take home your own colorful windsock that shows the movement of wind.

Mad Mixtures – Conjure up an eruption in our Mad Science lab. Use chemistry to blend different colors together and create liquid lasagna. Mix-up a batch of Mad Science play dough to take home.
